CURRENT PROJECTS: Bayer's current research in the sociology of education area entails a series of national studies of contrasting undergraduate student-faculty perspectives on college classroom misconduct manifested by professors. He has a proposal pending with NSF on a parallel study addressing ethical standards in American doctoral training programs, and a proposal with NIH/ORI on assessing university social control measures regarding scientific misconduct. In the science studies area, he is undertaking a bibliometric network analysis of the influences of contemporary feminist theory in sociological literature. Through Virginia Tech's Center for Survey Research, he also collaborates in conducting more than 20 surveys each year assessing various local, regional, and national public policies and programs. He is co-investigator on an annual Virginia statewide survey monitoring quality of life and trends over time.
